My Summer 2017 Skincare Favorites

The weather’s turning warmer, and it’s time to switch up my skincare routine!

My skin is fairly sensitive, and tends to take to products without many additives or fragrances in their formulas. As I’ve gotten to know my skin better, I’ve begun looking for products with simpler formulas and ingredients that I recognize.

Here are my essentials for this summer season:

Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Oil with Coconut & Argan Oils

With any product, you want to give your skin at least two weeks to get used to the formula before pitching it all together. At first, my skin was like, “Okay, what in the HECK did you just put on me?!” I ended up with a bit of a breakout in my T-zone, but after about a week, my skin cleared up beautifully! Oil cleansing promotes balanced production of the natural oils in your skin. As I’ve been using Burt’s Bees Facial Cleansing Oil, I’ve found that my skin’s oily spots have evened out and my dry spots have dissipated. It’s very easy to wash away, and removes makeup like a dream. This is a great affordable alternative to high-end oil cleansers.

LUSH Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water

While working at LUSH, I learned the true magic of toner water. I added Breath of Fresh Air into my skincare routine, and not only did my dryness and redness go away, it enabled me to use less cream on my face and allowed for more even spreadability! With gentle ingredients like aloe and rose, my face feels more pampered than ever. I’ve saved so much money using this toner within my routine; I’ve been able to cut my face cream usage in half, and my skin is absolutely loving it.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

This product really packs a powerful punch of moisturization! It’s non-greasy, oil-free formula settles into my skin so beautifully. I’ll spritz my face with LUSH’s Breath of Fresh Air Toner Water, spread to ensure even coverage, and layer this right over without letting the toner dry. Hyaluronic Acid works best when there is ample moisture for it to attach to, so the extra boost of the toner helps it to be even more nourishing. I’ll be using this as a day and night cream this season.

Neutrogena Pure & Free Baby Sunscreen, SPF 60+

I use this sunscreen every single day–no matter the weather. With sunscreen, anything above 75 SPF is usually just a thicker formula, and doesn’t allow for any more protection than 75 SPF. I love this formula because it’s not too thick, and is suitable for applying all over, including my face! It’s hard to find a sunblock that doesn’t make my face breakout (many of them are oil-based), but this one was gentle enough right from the start. If you have an Ocean State Job Lot or similar store near you, check their shelves. You can usually get this for much less than the original price.

Clarisonic Mia 2

I cannot say enough about this cleansing brush! It’s definitely a high-end product with a high-end price tag, but it is one of the best beauty investments I’ve ever made. Summertime is perfect for getting into more exfoliation, and this brush has sensitive and full-power settings, depending on your skin’s needs. I swear my skin glows after every use! To clean, I’ll just take the brush head and soak it in baking soda and white vinegar for a while, then rinse. Be sure to clean the actual handle as well; moisture gets under the brush head, and you don’t want mold or mildew up in there!

There you have it, ladies and gentlemen; my favorite skincare products for Summer 2017. Have you tried any of these products? What did you think? Comment below!

I love a good skincare post to get new ideas! I recently started using an oil cleanser and I think I’ve been doing it wrong before- I’m learning that I can use a cleanser afterwards which I never used to do, but I actually prefer it! It makes me like using cleansing oils more overall now that I know that I can do that. I agree with using SPF- I haven’t tried that particular one but have used a different Neutrogena product on my face and liked it because it didn’t break me out. I currently use an ELF moisturizer with SPF. Thanks for sharing! XX Jen,

    • That’s what’s awesome about oil cleansers as well–they’re SO flexible! I used one from LUSH in the wintertime, and I actually didn’t use water with it at all in order to have the glycerin protect my skin. I would just wipe off most of it with a cotton pad and toner water!

Since my skin is so fair, I always supplement any beauty products with SPF in them with another sunblock. UV rays are getting stronger by the year, so I can never be too careful with my ginger skin 😛

I really needed to read this! I need a total new skincare routine and this is a great push/motivation for me to do my research and find what products are right for my skin. I’ve never tried any of these products but I’ve always wanted to try the Clarisonic! I can’t imagine how lovely it makes your face feel!! 💕

    • I’m so glad this was helpful! It took me years to figure out my skin and really listen to it, but once I did, it seriously changed my life. I use less foundation and cover-up now; really, less makeup in general. I feel so confident in my natural skin! Oh and trust me, the Clarisonic is a miracle <3 it's like a buff and polish for your skin 😀

Ahhh, I’ve wanted one of those clarisonics for AGES!! Everyone is always singing its praises, but every time I go to buy it, I wince at the price! I think its about time I just bite the bullet and get it!

    • It was definitely a HUGE purchase for me, especially since I was in college when I bought it. I’ve had rotating brushes before, and they were WAY too abrasive on my skin! I actually found mine on eBay for a bit cheaper; definitely take a look there if the price tag is a bit too hefty!

  • Becca

I have not tried those products. My favorite summer skincare product right now is probably my Mario Badescu honey moisturizer !

    • Amber

I haven’t tried any Mario Badescu products, but that sounds so lovely, I think I’ll have to give it a try soon! xx
